Central Sterilization\n*St. John's Regional Medical Center*\n \nWe
are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Instrument Tech I
to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for
supports and promotes the provision of quality patient care by
cleaning, processing and sterilization of instruments and surgical
trays. SPD was established to centralize the decontamination,
sterilization, assembly, distribution and control of sterile items,
non-sterile items and equipment used in all areas of the hospital.
By centralizing these activities, it is possible to provide more
effective and efficient service. The overall objective of SPD is to
have the right item, at the right place, at the right time, in the
right condition.\n\nResponsibilities\n\n* Demonstrates proper
procedures for cleaning, packaging, labeling, processing and
storing of clean and sterile supplies\n* Sorts and assembles
surgical instruments following lists and arranges items in
appropriate instrument trays. \n* Separates delicate and basic
instruments, electrical cords, cables, and processes according to
established procedures. \n* Sorts and identifies special
instruments for processing, e.g. power equipment, scopes, etc.\n*
Inspects each instrument for cleanliness, alignment and function.
\n* Checks for missing parts and straightens malleable instruments.
Reports malfunctioning, missing and broken instrumentation to
appropriate personnel.\n* Cleans and maintains equipment essential
to assuring effective sterilization: Ultrasonic machine, washer
decontaminators, steam, Sterrad and Ethylene Oxide sterilizers.\n*
Demonstrates proper procedure for operating the steam, Sterrad and
Ethylene Oxide sterilizers, washer decontaminators, and ultrasonic
cleaner. Uses proper loading/unloading procedures.\n* Upon
completion of sterilization, stores product in SPD sterile area and
returns processed instrumentation, instrument trays, and equipment
to appropriate locations.\n* Performs routine quality assurance
testing procedures for sterilization and maintains related
biological records in the department.\n* Replenishes depleted
supplies in SPD.\n* Deliver clean/sterile supplies, surgical
trays.\n\nQualifications\n\n* High School education or Equivalent
required.\n* Expectation of employee completing a Central Supply
and Sterile Processing Certification within one year of hire.
\nPreferred:\n\n* Six to twelve months of related experience
desired. \nSpecial Skills:\n\n* To read write and follow written
and oral instruction. \n* To communicate effectively with
individuals of diverse backgrounds. \n* To acquire and practice
thorough knowledge of the principles of aseptic technique when
carrying out various functions in the Sterile Processing
Department. \n* To participate in on-going inservices training and
on the job training. \n* To follow exact procedures for every
assignment. \n* To perform arithmetic computations in determining
the amount of supplies needed issued and returned. \n* To work
independently without close supervision. \n* Friendly courteous
cooperative team oriented proactive attitude problem solving skills
and detailed accuracy are required.\nThis position is represented
by SEIU-UHW and is covered by the terms and conditions of the
applicable collective bargaining agreement.\n \n\nPay Range\n$21.28
- $26.76 /hour
