Job Opportunity – Medical Social Worker – Southern California Start Date: ASAP Location: Torrance, California Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants Schedule: Every other weekend required; holiday coverage required (must commit to 3 of 5 major holidays); 40-hour orientation; case load up to 25 patients; weekend responsibility includes oversight of up to 2 units with focus on discharge planning Highlights: Acute care facility environment with patient ratio of 1:35 Epic EMR system utilized for documentation Comprehensive interdisciplinary support including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams Full spectrum patient population including neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics Dual focus on care coordination and discharge planning across multiple units Professional dress code environment with scrubs or business casual attire Requirements: Active California state license required (pending license accepted) Master of Social Work (MSW) certification required Minimum 2 years of acute hospital case management experience required Previous travel experience required (first-time travelers not accepted) Epic charting system experience required Knowledge of drug/alcohol abuse treatment options, homelessness resources, mental health crisis intervention, and POLST Experience with biopsychosocial assessments, discharge planning, and care coordination Strong knowledge of benefits eligibility, medical necessity determination, prior authorizations, and appeals/denials processes Familiarity with protective services (adult and child), guardianship, involuntary holds, and advance directives Two supervisory references covering one year of comparable specialty experience within the last three years Why It's a Great Opportunity: This position offers an experienced medical social worker the chance to make a meaningful impact across diverse patient populations in a well-supported acute care environment.
